Lord Fear Adventures

One Last Meeting

---

Saressa Yandell turned off the light before slowly closing the door behind her as quietly as she could. Feeling that all was calm she breathed a sigh of relief as she leaned her back against the door. After all she went through in a matter of hours she decided that it was a fine time to relax. However, she wasn’t the only person in the room. A part of her sensed that there was another presence in the room.

On instinct she reach for her particle magnum and scanned the room. It was plain and simple looking room, containing the usual furniture and appliances. Saressa then saw the newcomer sitting in a swivel chair at the desk in the darkened corner of the room. The former Time Agent walked over to the figure and held the gun to his head as she ordered, “Turn around so I can see you.”

The figure turned on the lamp at the desk and spun around in the chair. Dressed in a long red coat, extraordinary long scarf and helmet covering the back of his head. Raising a finger up to his hat which hid his eyes to reveal his identity with a smile, “Hello Saressa, it's been a while.”

Relaxing as she saw that it was Lord Fear, Saressa holstered her particle magnum and said, “I was wondering when you would show up.”

“What can I say?” asked Fear as he stood up from the chair, “I've been a very busy man. Jelly baby?”

Saressa smiled as she rolled her eyes at his childlike question before reaching into the paper bag full of the colourful tasty baby sweets. “I know, you never stop.” replied Saressa as she placed the strawberry flavoured jelly baby into her mouth. Fear walked over to the window and placed his fingers between slats of the window blind to look outside as she enquired, “And also travelling alone?”

“Yes.” answered the Time Lord with a nod, “I parted ways with Jeremy, Maiya and Ezekiel only a while ago. I decided that I had put them in harms way for the last time and so I reluctantly left them in their own time.”

“Considering all the things you all have been through and seen.” said Saressa as she paused before listing them off, “There were the times you and your friends faced off against me then eventually later working with you. Then there was that Nagash person who you often spoken to me about, and the Daleks.”

Fear glanced over at Saressa at the mere mention of his greatest and oldest foes. He looked back out the window as he muttered, “The less said about the Daleks, the better.”

The Time Agent studied the Time Lord's facial features closely as he spoke. Noticing his changes she said, “You look younger than the last time we met.”

“Regeneration.” explained Fear as he turned towards her. Confused and amazed, Saressa tried to question Fear, but he raised as his hand and continued, “I know it's not like a normal regeneration but trust me it's happened.”

Walking over to Lord Fear, Saressa raised a hand and held it against the side of his face as she remarked, “An impossible regeneration, younger yet older at the same time as keeping the same body.”

Fear nodded and smiled as he said in agreement, “Best way to describe it really.”

The former Time Agent looked into the Time Lord's eyes. She looked hard into them. Despite Lord Fear's current appearance and his recent experiences, he still seem old to her. “Your eyes tell a story, you've been through a war haven't you?”, she softly spoke.

A pained expression suddenly swept across Lord Fear's face as he reached up and took Saressa's hand away from his face. He walked past her as he answered, “I prefer not to talk about it.”

Raising an eyebrow at the sudden change of the Time Lord's temperament, Saressa turned and saw him sit back in the chair. She knelt down and asked him, “What happened?”

The Time Lord closed his eyes, taking a deep breath before saying, “The Last Great Time War.”

Raising an quizzical eyebrow, Saressa commented, “I thought that was just a myth.”

Lord Fear opened his eyes and looked into Saressa's as he explained, “I was there... one of the few who can mourn those lost forever for all eternity.” He looked away, sighing sadly as he leaned back in the chair, “Everyone lost Saressa, the Time Lords are no more.”

Saressa’s eyes widened as the weight of the news hit her with like a punch to the stomach. She stayed unmoving as she whispered, “Impossible!”

He nodded to confirm what he had said was true. “As to the Daleks.” he added as he looked at Saressa, “To a point.”

Raising her eyebrow, the former Time Agent asked, “What do you mean?”

“Some survived.” admitted Fear “Along with the Emperor Dalek...for a while at least.”

“What about him?” asked Saressa, “The Doctor.”

“Nothing.” said Fear as he shook his head. “I would know if he or any others survived, I would be able to sense it.” added the Time Lord as he rose a hand up and tapped two fingers against his right temple, “In here, I am more or less the last Time Lord in existence.”

“I'm sorry.” said Saressa as Lord Fear looked away. Seeing that he wanted a change in subject, she started, “You're probably wondering why I asked you to come here.”

“Yes.” replied Fear as his mood changed in an instant. Standing up from the chair once more, “I understand that it is important.”

Saressa nodded, turning around as she said, “I'll let you see for yourself.”

Fear raised an eyebrow as he followed Saressa to the door, she opened it and let the Time Lord in. In the middle of the room he saw a bassinet. It was truly an odd thing to see knowing the line of work that Saressa was in.  As Fear approached the bassinet closer he noticed that something was sleeping. Fear raised an eyebrow and then looked at Saressa as he quietly asked, “A child?”

The Time Agent nodded. “Yes.” she said and explained, “This is my son.”

“Really?” said a surprised Lord Fear who asked, “What's his name?

“Ezekiel Loken.” answered Saressa.

Lord Fear nodded in response and closed his eyes. He opened his mouth slightly as the realisation hit and with eyes opening again, “You have got to be kidding me.”

Saressa shook her head, briefly amused at Lord Fear's surprised expression as she said, “I'm not, who else do you know who is three quarters human and also a quarter Reploid?”

Fear looked over at Saressa with a raised eyebrow before looking back at the baby as he drew out his Sonic Screwdriver. He brought a finger as he made a hushing sound at the device before activating it. The device began to buzz quietly as Lord Fear held it like a pen while scanning the slumbering Ezekiel's genetic make up.

“Mostly human with evidence of Reploid DNA as well, it's him all right.” said Fear as he concluded his scans. He pocketed the Sonic Screwdriver as he said, “This certainly explains a lot, his unnatural high strength, agility, durability and intelligence.”

“Part of that did come from me.” added Saressa with raised eyebrows.

Raising his hand to his chin to rub it, Fear nodded. “No doubt of course, but who's the father?” asked the Time Lord, “Obviously the guy who was part Reploid.”

Saressa sighed sadly. “That's the reason why I asked you here.” Averting her gaze down to her son as she said, “I want you to wipe all knowledge of Ezekiel from my mind and take him away from me.”

“What?” asked Fear in surprise. Enquiring, “Why?”

“The father... the man I love, should not know about his existence.” answered Saressa, “I have not seen him in over a year, ever since I found out I was pregnant with his child.”

He crossed his arms as he enquired, “How did you meet?”

“The usual way.” the Time Agent responded as a brief smile appeared on her face, “Met him in a bar, we hit it off with one another just like that, then one thing led to another and then we both woke up in bed with one another.”

Lord Fear rolled his eyes, raising the palm of his hand to his face as he muttered under his breath, “Time Agents.”

“Say what you will, but he was different to the others.” responded Saressa.

Raising his face from his hand with a raised eyebrow, Fear asked, “How so?”

“The more time we spent together and got to know each other, the more we cared about each other's company.” spoke Saressa as she looked up, “What started off as a fling became something more.”

Listening on, Fear smiled as he stated, “You both fell in love.”

“Yeah.” said Saressa as the smile disappeared from her face and became serious, “I don't know much about his family, but what I've learned about them though is enough for him not to know about his child.” Pausing, she turned to face Lord Fear and said, “My gut instinct has been telling me that despite my feelings towards him, I don't want my son to fall into the wrong hands.”

Lord Fear nodded, “I understand, but I don't like the idea Saressa.” He crossed his arms behind his back as he explained, “Erasing people's minds is something I've never done before and I do not take the matter lightly.”

“But you can do it, correct?” immediately asked the former Time Agent.

Glancing briefly over at Saressa, Fear replied, “Yes.”

“Then please, if not for me then do it for Ezekiel.” begged Saressa reasoning, “Do it to protect him. Please take him away from this and to a place where he will be safe. A place where he will have all he needs to become your friend and ally. Just like he is now in the future”

The Time Lord turned, looking over into Saressa's eyes and saw her doing something she had never before done before...she was pleading and to him of all people. Fear took a long hard look into the Time Agent’s eyes. The same young woman who once pointed her particle magnums between his eyes was now pleading with him to spare Ezekiel’s life from the family of her son’s father. “I  strongly object to this, but I'll do it... for Ezekiel's sake and not yours.”, said Fear sternly after taking what Saressa said into consideration.

Sighing, Saressa smiled, “Thank you.”

“Saressa Yandell, how far you've come.” remarked Fear as he said, “From Time Agent to time travelling mercenary to hunting me down on more than once due to a petty grudge, and then forming an unlikely alliance with myself, your son and companions to fight against the Cybermen.”

“We've been on quite a roller coaster.” said Saressa in agreement before saying, “And besides it was more than a petty grudge, you stopped me from doing my job remember.”

“That's beside the point.” responded Fear with a smile when he said, “If this is indeed the last time we meet, then allow me to say that it's been a privilege to meet you.”

“The privilege was all mine.” replied Saressa. She reached over to the cloth wrapped object and said, “But before you erase my memory, I ask you to do one more thing for me.”

The Time Lord tilted his head, “Yes?”

“I want you to leave this in a place he will find it when he's older.” answered Saressa as she past over the item.

Lord Fear took hold of the object and unwrapped the cloth. His eyebrow raised as he took out a holstered gun alongside a charger with five ammo cartridges, “One of your particle magnums?”

“Yes.” replied Saressa explaining, “Even if I may not remember him, I still want my son to be able to defend himself, then by extension, you and your friends as you know.”

“And you as well.” added Fear, before musing aloud, “The son saves his future mother without realising who their own family is.”

“Indeed.” said Saressa in agreement, “Besides, we have both seen him use it in action in our pasts and we both now know this is where he received it from.”

Fear nodded as he wrapped the weapon, ammo and charger back up again before placing them on them table. As he looked at the wrapped object, he asked, “One more thing though before I do this, just one question, why Loken?”

“Yandell has always been a name I adopted for myself years ago before joining the Time Agency.” explained Saressa as Lord Fear turned to face her as she said, “Loken is my real surname.”

“Loken, how noble.” said Fear. His face quickly turned serious as he asked, “Are you ready for me to do this?”

Taking a deep breath, Saressa nodded. “Yes.” she answered. Stepping towards the Time Lord until the two were mere inches apart as she then said, “Good bye Lord Fear, remember for me.”

“I will.” said Fear sadly as he nodded, “Good bye Saressa.”

Lord Fear raised his hands up and let his fingers rest upon the side of Saressa's face as he closed his eyes. Saressa’s eyes widened as she gasped, feeling memories of the past year being erased from her mind within an instant. A single tear trickled down her cheek as she remembered the joyous moment when she first held her son in her arms, only to have them erased from her mind.

Overcoming with exhaustion, Saressa fainted and collapsed into Lord Fear's arms. He held her in an embrace as he looked on somberly before closing his eyes for a brief moment to let the recent events sink in. Opening his eyes, Lord Fear picked up Saressa's unconscious form into his arms, carried her back over to the other room and towards the bed. He carefully and gently placed her on the mattress before drawing a quilt over her recumbent form. Raising a hand up to her face, Fear wiped away the tear from Saressa's face before resting his hand on the side of her head for a moment before moving away.

He slowly made his way back to the baby and stopped. Lord Fear took one last look over at Saressa's unconscious form before changing his gaze down at the sleeping Ezekiel “Well then, time we were off.”

---

“Here I am again.” whispered Fear to himself as he held the gate open.

The Time Lord continued walking down the path towards the large hall known as Southern Vale Orphanage. He had been to this location once before during a sad time that Lord Fear had pushed to the furthest reaches of his mind.

He carried the cradle in his arms, carefully and slowly in order to not disturb the sleeping child inside it. He slowly walked up the steps until he reached the door and pressed the doorbell twice to get the occupants attention.

As he waited, he looked down to the slumbering child, “Well young Ezekiel, you'll be seeing my past self in just over a couple of decades so please be on your best behaviour.” whispered Lord Fear, “You won't get along with me at first but you'll lighten up and you will be fantastic when you do.”

Fear stood up straight as he saw the hallway light had been switched on. He continued to wait as he heard the sound of a latch right before the door slowly opened seconds later. There stood at a tall man in his mid thirties with short black hair, dressed in a long sleeve white shirt and black trousers. He asked, “Can I help sir?”

“Yes, you can Mr. Norris.” responded Fear with a nod as he entered the building.

A few hours passed before the Time Lord blended once more into the darkness of the night. Hiding his true feelings with a calm expression on his face he waited at the door with Mr.Norris behind him saying, “Don't worry Lord Fear, we'll take good care of him.”

“He may be quite a troublemaker.” explained Lord Fear, “He won't be a normal child growing up, just a warning really.”

“I'll make a note of that.” said the human as he nodded before asking, “Is there anything else we can do for you?”

“Not at this current moment, but you'll see me again in a few years time.” answered Fear who added, “Just know that I won't have any knowledge of this occurring so go easy on me.”

Raising an eyebrow at what the Time Lord was saying, Mr Norris enquired, “I'm sorry, what are you talking about?”

“Time travel, it's complicated.” answered Fear as he began to walk away and placing his hat on his head. Mr Norris shook his head as he closed the door. Lord Fear looked back at the closed door one last time before turning around and sauntering off. Taking his time as his was swallowed by the night, as he walked back towards the TARDIS.

Once he had returned, he walked towards the console where Saressa’s gift to her son rested. The Time Lord placed his hand over weapon and stared at it, “Now, one last trip to leave Ezekiel this.”

Placing it back down on the console, Lord Fear walked around the console and pulled a lever. The time rotor rose and fell, Fear operating the controls as the TARDIS travelled once more.
